teenage pregnancy talks: the biology of teenage pregnancy: what happens to the body

What happens really??? to the body

  1. Biological Changes:

    • During adolescence, girls and boys experience biological changes that make them capable of reproduction.
    • The adolescent body is still developing, which affects its ability to handle the effects of pregnancy and childbirth.
    • Hormonal changes trigger ovulation and menstruation, making pregnancy possible.
  2. Health Risks for Teens:

    • Teens often don’t receive prenatal care early enough, leading to potential problems.
    • Risks for pregnant teens include:
      • High Blood Pressure (Preeclampsia): Teens are at higher risk for pregnancy-related high blood pressure and its complications.
      • Anemia: Pregnant teens have a higher chance of becoming anemic.
      • Premature Birth and Low Birth Weight: Babies born to teenage mothers are more likely to be premature and have low birth weight.

Emotional Challenges: Stigma, discrimination, and limited educational opportunities can impact teens’ lives.
